Jane Beachy is the Artistic Director at Illinois Humanities and an independent producer, curator, and educator. Notable projects include Envisioning Justice, which leverages the arts and humanities to respond to the impacts of mass incarceration and envision a just future, the Elective Studies series for artists, and Salonathon, a bustling “home for underground, emerging, and genre-defying art.” Her work as a producer and curator spans performances, exhibitions, public programs, residencies, retreats, and creative collaborations throughout and beyond Chicago. Jane has also taught performance-based curatorial practice at the University of Chicago, as well as through workshops at Yale University and Beloit College.

Following a montage of black and white footage of anti-oppressive and anti-racist activism in progress, the video opens with Jane Beachy, who is white, and Tyrese Williams, who is Black, introducing the video on behalf of Envisioning Justice. Following this, co-curator Mahogany Brown offers reflections on the video contributions to follow. Short video submissions incporporating film, music, and spoken pieces share perspectives and from humanists, artists, and community organizers working in system-impacted communities.
